Joanna Wilson
(b. 1896)
Born in Invergordon, Scotland, Wilson studied at Edinburgh ArtCollage, Edinburgh,
Scotland.
She came to British Columbia in 1919. Working in oil and watercolor, she is known for her
West Coast native village scenes and portraits, landscapes, flower studies and still life.
She
painted in Alert Bay, British Columbia and was a member of the Fraser Valley Art Group.
She was last active in Cloverdale, British Columbia. Her work is in the collection of the
Surrey Art Gallery.
Ronald Jackson
(1902 - 1992)
Ronald Jackson is recognized for his depictions of British Columbia's Magnificent coastal
regions. He graduated from the Slade School at the University of London in England and
also studied at the Grand Chaumier, Paris and the Otis Art Insitute in Los Angles. He was
commissioned to paint for the governments of the United Kingdom, Canada and British
Columbia, In his themes, his flowing quality of line and his subtle use of colour, one can
see that Jackson was involved in interpreting the power of the Canadian landscape - a
tradition he shared with such eminent painters as Lauren Harris, A Y Jackson and Emily
Carr.
