When we aquired this painting it was in dreadful shape.
It had never been stretched and had been hung many times
with tacks and staples, consequently the corners and top edge
were in poor condition. The painting has been completely restored
and mounted on heavy duty stretcher bar.
We have the original proposal, signed by the artist, for the commision
of this piece to the original owner. Morrisseau himself titles the painting
"The Masterpiece" on this proposal. The proposal and a letter of
Provenance that states the history and previous owners
will accompany the painting.
